Meet Our Founder
Peter Missingham
About Peter
Peter is an excellent all-round physiotherapist and given his history of elite-level sprinting, club-level soccer, and sub-par golfing practice, Peter has extra-special interests and experience in treating the injuries associated with these sports.
As an acupuncturist, Peter has successfully helped clients find relief from pain, fatigue, headaches, menstrual irregularities, menstrual pain, endometrial pain, and infertility.
Peters’ ultimate goal is to effectively treat you in as few sessions as he can manage. Having been involved in sports and physical rehabilitation for many years, both as the patient and then the practitioner, Peter finds the relatively common practice of over-treatment incredibly distasteful and disrespectful. Peter wishes you to know that he is here to provide you with his time, his ears, his knowledge and his expertise. He wants you to leave APOP, feeling as though you are genuinely listened to, and that your concerns and experiences are meaningful—not just to you, but to him as your practitioner. Together, you and Peter will go through a 4-step process to try to resolve, and prevent your particular ailment.
Release
Peter will draw upon his extensive massage and manual therapy training to manually release the soft-tissues and your joints from their prison of pain. The release phase will be achieved via hands-on manual therapy, the application of heat packs and potentially acupuncture.
Re-educate
In this phase, Peter will help you to become aware of how you move your body. He will highlight where, how and why the dysfunctional movement pattern has been created, but more importantly, he will teach you how to correct it.
Reinforce
This is where the practical application of exercise takes place. This is the point whereby Peter teaches you which, and how to use, the appropriate muscles to perform the required action, pain-free. There are no big, fancy, show-stopping exercises for show-stopping muscles used here! Just simple strength-building exercises to ensure that the under-utilised muscles are stepping up and doing their job.
Retain
The last step in your journey back to functional wellness. This is where you and Peter ensure that you have been taught, and know how to apply, the steps required to retain and maintain your newly found pain-free state.
Peter treats both acute and chronic pain-states and dysfunction, he aims to do it in as few sessions as is possible to get true resolution of the issue long-term, as he firmly believes that A Pinch of Prevention is worth a pound of cure.
