What is Physiotherapy?

When you seek healthcare, you want to feel and move better – and that’s exactly what physiotherapy focuses on. But it offers so much more than just symptom relief!

Beyond being a form of physical therapy, physiotherapy is a time-honoured discipline that recognises injury doesn’t define you. There’s always a pathway to recovery and renewal.

A variety of treatments are available, including massage, dry needling, and joint mobilisation. We work with you to find the best fit, helping you take control of your recovery. Physiotherapy can support your mobility and wellbeing at any stage of life.

Our Physio Approach

Physiotherapy covers many areas of life, including injury treatment and prevention, education, exercise programs, occupational health checks, pelvic floor support, continence care, and falls prevention.

The physiotherapists at A Pinch Of Prevention are passionate about helping you become the best physical version of yourself, in a way that’s realistic and tailored to you. At A Pinch Of Prevention, we assess and diagnose carefully before crafting your individual treatment plan, built around our proven 4-step approach: Release, Re-educate, Reinforce, and Retain.

Release: Targeting the primary muscle around the joint that’s contributing to the dysfunction.

Re-Educate: Training the muscles responsible for movement to work more efficiently, helping to reduce pain and prevent future issues.

Reinforce: Building strength in the right muscles to help prevent future injuries.

Retain: Showing you how to preserve proper form during activities, helping you achieve your goals and sustain progress.

What To Expect From Your Physio Appointment?

With a strong focus on the musculoskeletal system, physiotherapists are commonly recommended by GPs to help manage pain and stiffness. We help people move better and get more out of life—so if something feels ‘not quite right’, we’re the team for you!

During your initial consultation, we conduct a full assessment and diagnosis based on your symptoms and medical background. Treatment plans are tailored individually—even for the same condition—and your physiotherapist will explain your options before beginning care.

Your physiotherapist works with you to develop a plan that targets your concerns—be it a sore knee, headaches, arthritis, or a sports injury—focusing on your goals for physiotherapy.

Techniques like joint mobilisation, muscle release, dry needling, and tailored exercise therapy are part of physiotherapy care. Whatever is recommended has been thoughtfully chosen to best support your progress.

Your Physiotherapy Questions Answered

Do I need a referral in order to visit a physical therapist?

Physiotherapists can be considered first-contact independent practitioners. If you have an acute injury, or chronic pain or need to visit us, you don’t require a doctor’s referral. A Pinch Of Physiotherapy physiotherapists will gladly work with any healthcare team including podiatrists and dentists and can accept Enhanced Primary Care Plans from your GP.

What qualifications does a physio have?

Physiotherapy in Australia is a highly regulated industry that requires successful completion of university-level tertiary studies, active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association (APA) and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). To maintain active membership within these regulatory bodies, it is a professional requirement that all members undertake a minimum of 20 hours of Continuing Practice Education (CPE) each calendar year. Compliance with these rules allows patients to feel confident that their physiotherapist is a board-certified professional, subject to an ethical code of conduct and remains fully versed with current research and techniques within their field

How many physio sessions will I need?

Your individual goals, needs and condition will determine how many treatments you need. Some people may only require a few sessions while others might need an ongoing, long-term treatment plan.

What should I wear for my physio appointment?

Here, you don’t need to dress up! Wear whatever you’re comfortable in, and wherever possible, wear something that will allow us to work on the affected area.

Is physiotherapy covered under Medicare or any private health insurance?

This will depend on your specific condition. Physiotherapy coverage might be available through Medicare with an Enhanced Primary Care plan. Private health insurance may or not include physiotherapy – check with your provider.

How do I know if physiotherapy is the right treatment type for my injury or condition?

If you’re unsure if physiotherapy is right for you, the best way to find out is to get in touch with us. Our physio team will work with you to assess your needs and determine the best possible treatment options, if any, that may be beneficial for you.
