A Pinch of Physiotherapy May Be Just What You Need

Sore back? Sprained ankle? Desk job taking its toll? Whatever the reason, we’re glad you’re here. At A Pinch of Prevention, we help people of all ages reduce pain and move better.

What is Physiotherapy?

Looking to move and feel better? That’s the heart of physiotherapy – but it also goes beyond just improving symptoms to support your overall wellbeing.

More than physical therapy, physiotherapy is a discipline that has evolved to show that injury isn’t the end of your story. It supports recovery and encourages meaningful progress.

We offer a broad range of treatments like massage, dry needling, and joint mobilisation. Our goal is to work with you to find the right approach, helping you take charge of your mobility and wellbeing.

Our Physio Approach

From injury recovery and prevention to occupational health, pelvic floor support, continence care, and falls risk management, physiotherapy supports many aspects of your health journey.

A Pinch Of Prevention’s physiotherapists are focused on helping you reach your personal physical best, whatever that may look like for you within your own capabilities. At A Pinch Of Prevention, we assess and diagnose carefully before crafting your individual treatment plan, built around our proven 4-step approach: Release, Re-educate, Reinforce, and Retain.

Release: Loosening the primary muscle affecting the joint to restore more natural function.

Re-Educate: Helping the right muscles move efficiently to ease pain and lower the risk of future dysfunction.

Reinforce: Focused muscle strengthening to protect against recurring injuries.

Retain: Helping you hold correct form through movement, allowing you to perform daily tasks and keep moving forward.

What To Expect From Your Physio Appointment?

GPs often refer patients to physiotherapists because of their expertise in reducing pain and stiffness. We work with many conditions to support better movement and a fuller life. If you feel something could improve, our team is ready to assist!

An initial consultation includes a detailed assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning, taking your symptoms and medical history into account. Every treatment plan is unique—even for the same condition—because physiotherapy is all about you! Your options will be discussed before starting care.

Treatment and management plans are designed around your unique needs, whether you’re dealing with a sore knee, headaches, arthritis, or a sports injury. Your physiotherapy journey is guided by what you hope to achieve.

From joint mobilisation and manual therapy to dry needling and exercise programs, physiotherapists draw from a wide range of techniques. Any approach suggested is carefully considered to help you achieve your goals.

Your Physiotherapy Questions Answered

Do I need a referral in order to visit a physical therapist?
Physiotherapists can be considered first-contact independent practitioners. If you have an acute injury, or chronic pain or need to visit us, you don’t require a doctor’s referral. A Pinch Of Physiotherapy’s physiotherapists are happy to collaborate with your healthcare team, whether they are podiatrists, dentists, or another healthcare professional. They are also open to accepting Enhanced Primary Care Plans from your doctor.
What qualifications does a physio have?
Physiotherapy in Australia is a highly regulated industry that requires successful completion of university-level tertiary studies, active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association (APA) and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). It is a requirement for all members to complete at least 20 hours of continuing practice education (CPE) annually in order to maintain an active membership with these regulatory bodies. These rules allow patients to be confident that their physiotherapists are board-certified professionals, subject to an ethics code of conduct, and fully informed about current research and techniques in their field.
How many physiotherapy sessions will I need?
It will depend on your personal goals, needs, and treatment plan. For some people may only need a couple of sessions, while others may require a more ongoing and long-term plan.
Is there a desired clothing for physio treatment?
It doesn’t matter if you dress up or down. You can wear whatever you like, but ensure that we can still work on the affected area of your body. You might wear shorts if your knee pain is severe, and a singlet if you have pain in your shoulders.
Is physiotherapy covered by Medicare or any private health insurance?
This depends on your individual circumstances. Physiotherapy coverage may also be available through Medicare under an Enhanced Primary Care plan. Private health insurance may or may not cover physiotherapy. We recommend that you speak with your insurer for advice.
How can I tell if physiotherapy is the appropriate treatment for my injury?
You can get in touch with us to determine if physiotherapy is for you. Our physiotherapists will assess your needs, and then determine the best treatment options.
