Sore back? A sprained ankle? Feeling the effects of your desk job catching up with you? We are glad that you have made the first step toward listening to your body. People of all ages, from all walks of life, seek physiotherapy to relieve their pain and improve their functioning. That’s exactly what A Pinch Of Prevention aims to do.

What is Physiotherapy and how does it work?

Visiting physiotherapy means you want to feel and move better. It’s so much more than this!

Physiotherapy, in addition to being a form of physical therapy, is an art form and a discipline that has been evolving over many, many years. It was created out of the understanding that a personal injury does not necessarily have to be the end of a person’s journey in life. Whatever the injury, there is physiotherapy that can ease your discomfort and feel better. It promotes recovery and helps you return to the activities you love.

A variety of treatments are available including massage, dry needling and joint mobilisation. We work closely with you in order to find the right treatment for you. It’s your body, you are the captain of your ship. We’re here to support you stay afloat.

Through the art and discipline of physiotherapy new meaning can be restored back to your life. In time, this may enable you to truly live your life again in a manner that brings you joy. You can live your dreams if you are a passionate footy player, an aspiring dancer or just want to keep up with your grandkids.

Physiotherapy is a useful tool that can maximise your mobility and well-being, regardless of your age, condition or injury. Whether you’re a student, office worker, senior citizen, or aiming to become the next best sports star the world has ever seen, physiotherapy may be just what you need to assist you to get back out there.

Our Physio Approach

Our treatment covers many aspects of life, including injury treatment and prevention, patient education, exercise prescription and occupational health assessment. It also includes continence care for men or women and falls risk assessment and mitigation.

A Pinch Of Prevention’s physiotherapists have a passion for supporting people achieve their physical best. Our physiotherapists begin your treatment by performing a thorough assessment. This is followed by a tailored treatment regimen that incorporates our 4-step process, which includes Release, Re-educate, Reinforce and Retain.

Release: The primary muscle of the joint that is causing the dysfunction.

Re-Educate: The biomechanics of the musculature responsible for the desired movement, to operate more efficiently so as to decrease pain/episodes of painful debility.

Reinforce: Conditioning the relevant muscles to reduce the chance of injury reoccurring.

Retain: How do you hold your body during movement to allow you to perform the functions you need in order to move forward in life.

A Pinch of Prevention offers physiotherapy treatment to areas including Camp Hill, Carindale, Coopers Plains, Greenslopes, Holland Park, Mansfield, Robertson, Rochedale, Sailsbury, Sunnybank, Tarragindi, Wishart and surrounding areas.

What to Expect During Your Physio Appointment?

Physiotherapists are professionals in the musculoskeletal system and are often recommended by GPs for their ability to reduce stiffness and pain. Physiotherapists can serve people with many conditions. If you feel that something ‘isn’t quite right’ or could use some improvement in any way, we’re the team to turn to!

A consultation is a thorough evaluation and informed diagnosis. It also includes a discussion about your medical history. Even if the patient has the same condition, no two treatment plans will be created the same. This goes to show that physiotherapy is all about you. Your treatment options are diverse and your physiotherapist should discuss them with you before you begin treatment.

Your physiotherapist should create bespoke treatment and management plans that are suitable to your needs after working together on the problems that you have. Whether that’s a sore knee, headaches, arthritis, or a sports injury, your treatment is centred around you and what you hope to get out of physiotherapy.

Physiotherapists can use various techniques including manual therapy, dry needling, trigger points release, joint mobilisation and manipulation and muscular and myofascial relief. They might also recommend active therapies such as orthotics, taping and hydrotherapy, rebalancing exercises, clinical Pilates or electrotherapy. Whatever your physiotherapist suggests for you, they’ve considered it carefully and wholly believe that the treatment/s they’ve selected have the best chance of supporting you reach your goals.

Your Physiotherapy Questions Answered

Do I need a referral in order to visit a physical therapist?
Physiotherapists are known as autonomous first-contact practitioners, which means that you do not need a doctor’s referral to come and see us if you have an acute injury or chronic pain. The physiotherapists of A Pinch Of Physiotherapy are more than happy to work alongside your healthcare team; be they podiatrists, dentists, GPs or naturopaths; and are delighted to accept Enhanced Primary Care plans from your treating physician.
What qualifications are required for physios?
Physiotherapy in Australia has a strict regulatory board. It requires successful completion of at least one year of university-level tertiary study, active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association or AHPRA registration and active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association. It is a requirement for all members to complete at least 20 hours of continuing practice education (CPE) annually in order to maintain an active membership with these regulatory bodies. Compliance with these rules allows patients to feel confident that their physiotherapist is a board-certified professional, subject to an ethical code of conduct and remains fully versed with current research and techniques within their field
How many physio sessions will I need?
Based on your goals, treatment plans and individual needs, the number of treatments that you might need may vary. For some, they might only need a few sessions. Others might require a long-term and more comprehensive plan.
Is there a desired clothing for physio treatment?
You don’t have to dress up to impress! Wear what you feel comfortable in and, if possible, something that will allow us access to the affected area. For example, if you have knee pain you may want to wear shorts, or if you have shoulder pain, a singlet may be a good idea.
Can I pay for physiotherapy through Medicare or private insurance?
It all depends on your particular case. Physiotherapy coverage may also be available through Medicare under an Enhanced Primary Care plan. Private health insurance may or may not cover physiotherapy. We recommend that you speak with your insurer for advice.
How do I know if physiotherapy is the right treatment type for my injury or condition?
Get in touch with our team if you aren’t sure physiotherapy would be right for your needs. Our physios will meet with you to evaluate your needs and assist you to choose the most beneficial treatment option for you.
