What is Physiotherapy?

When you seek healthcare, you want to feel and move better – and that’s exactly what physiotherapy focuses on. But it offers so much more than just symptom relief!

Beyond being a form of physical therapy, physiotherapy is a time-honoured discipline that recognises injury doesn’t define you. There’s always a pathway to recovery and renewal.

With treatments such as massage, dry needling, and joint mobilisation, we tailor your care to suit you. Physiotherapy empowers people of all ages and backgrounds to enhance their movement and overall wellbeing.

Why Physiotherapy Could Be Right for You

Physiotherapy takes many forms, helping individuals with different health needs, goals, and activity levels throughout all stages of life.

Reduce Pain

With training across multiple pain management methods, physiotherapists aim to reduce your experience of pain.

Improve Movement

Stiffness or pain can limit your range of movement and affect daily life. Physiotherapy works to enhance and maintain joint health, helping you move more freely.

Assist in Healing

Our goal is to assist your recovery from within, working to ease pain, enhance mobility, and support the management of any conditions.

Strengthen Muscles

Strengthening exercises are a core part of physiotherapy. We help you work the muscle to promote growth and, over time, boost strength.

Prevent Future Injury

At A Pinch of Prevention, prevention isn’t just in our name—it’s at the heart of what we do! We focus on helping you avoid future injuries wherever possible.

Increase the Quality of Life

Don’t wait to start feeling better—physiotherapy can help trigger those feel-good endorphins, improving both your mood and quality of life.

What To Expect From Your Physio Appointment?

With a strong focus on the musculoskeletal system, physiotherapists are commonly recommended by GPs to help manage pain and stiffness. We help people move better and get more out of life—so if something feels ‘not quite right’, we’re the team for you!

Your first consultation involves a comprehensive assessment and informed diagnosis, carefully considering your symptoms and medical history. No two treatment plans are identical, showing how personalised physiotherapy truly is. Your physiotherapist will review your treatment options with you beforehand.

Your physiotherapist will create treatment and management plans tailored to your needs, helping you address specific issues like a sore knee, headaches, arthritis, or sports injuries. Your goals are always at the centre of your care.

From joint mobilisation and manual therapy to dry needling and exercise programs, physiotherapists draw from a wide range of techniques. Any approach suggested is carefully considered to help you achieve your goals.

Your Physiotherapy Questions Answered

Do I need a referral in order to visit a physical therapist?

A physiotherapist is an autonomous first-contact practitioner. This means you don’t need to be referred by a doctor to see us for acute injuries or chronic pain. A Pinch Of Physiotherapy’s physiotherapists are happy to collaborate with your healthcare team, whether they are podiatrists, dentists, or another healthcare professional. They are also open to accepting Enhanced Primary Care Plans from your doctor.

What qualifications are required for physios?

Physiotherapy in Australia is a highly regulated industry that requires successful completion of university-level tertiary studies, active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association (APA) and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Each member must complete at least 20 hours in continuing practice education each calendar year to keep their membership active. Compliance with these rules allows patients to feel confident that their physiotherapist is a board-certified professional, subject to an ethical code of conduct and remains fully versed with current research and techniques within their field

How many physio sessions will I need?

Based on your goals, treatment plans and individual needs, the number of treatments that you might need may vary. For some people may only need a couple of sessions, while others may require a more ongoing and long-term plan.

What should I wear during a physio appointment?

You don’t have to dress up to impress! Wear whatever you are comfortable in. If possible, bring something that will allow us the opportunity to treat the affected areas. Shorts may be the best option for you if you are experiencing knee pain.

Is physiotherapy covered under Medicare or any private health insurance?

This will depend on your specific condition. Physiotherapy coverage may be available through Medicare with an Enhanced Primary Care Plan, and if you have private health cover this may or may not include physiotherapy– we recommend you check with your insurer if you’re unsure.

How do I determine if physiotherapy is right for me?

Contact us if you are unsure if physiotherapy might be right for you. Our physiotherapists will assess your needs, and then determine the best treatment options.
