Reduce Pain

Physiotherapists are well-trained in many different forms of pain management, all of which aim to reduce feelings of pain.

What to Look Forward To On Your Physio Appointment?

Physiotherapists are professionals in the musculoskeletal system and are often recommended by GPs for their ability to reduce stiffness and pain. Physiotherapists also work with people with a variety of conditions, aiming to support their bodies to move better and get the most out of life. We can work together if something seems ‘off’ or needs improvement.

A consultation is a thorough evaluation and informed diagnosis. It also includes a discussion about your medical history. Even if the patient has the same condition, no two treatment plans will be created the same. This goes to show that physiotherapy is all about you. There are many treatment options available and your physiotherapist should talk with you about them before you start treatment.

Your physiotherapist must develop treatment and management strategies that suit your condition and goals. You and your goals for physiotherapy are the focal points to the treatment.

Physiotherapists can use various techniques including manual therapy, dry needling, trigger points release, joint mobilisation and manipulation and muscular and myofascial relief. They may also recommend active treatments such as rebalancing exercises, clinical Pilates, orthotics, taping, hydrotherapy and electrotherapy. Whatever your physiotherapist suggests for you, they’ve considered it carefully and wholly believe that the treatment/s they’ve selected have the best chance of supporting you reach your goals.

Your Physiotherapy Questions Answered

Do I need a referral to see a physio?
Physiotherapists can be seen without the need for a referral from a doctor. The physiotherapists of A Pinch Of Physiotherapy are more than happy to work alongside your healthcare team; be they podiatrists, dentists, GPs or naturopaths; and are delighted to accept Enhanced Primary Care plans from your treating physician.
What qualifications does a physio have?
Physiotherapy in Australia is a highly regulated industry that requires successful completion of university-level tertiary studies, active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association (APA) and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). It is a requirement for all members to complete at least 20 hours of continuing practice education (CPE) annually in order to maintain an active membership with these regulatory bodies. Compliance with these rules allows patients to feel confident that their physiotherapist is a board-certified professional, subject to an ethical code of conduct and remains fully versed with current research and techniques within their field
How many physio sessions do I need?
The number of treatments you may need will vary based on your individual goals, needs and treatment plan. Some people may only require a few sessions while others might need an ongoing, long-term treatment plan.
What should I wear during a physio appointment?
You don’t have to dress up to impress! Wear whatever you’re comfortable in, and wherever possible, wear something that will allow us to work on the affected area. You might wear shorts if your knee pain is severe, and a singlet if you have pain in your shoulders.
Can I pay for physiotherapy through Medicare or private insurance?
This will depend on your specific condition. You may be eligible for physiotherapy coverage through Medicare with an Enhanced Primary Care Plan. If you have private insurance, this may or might not cover physiotherapy.
How do I know if physiotherapy is the right treatment type for my injury or condition?
You can get in touch with us to determine if physiotherapy is for you. Our physiotherapists will assess your needs, and then determine the best treatment options.
