Our Physio Approach

Physiotherapy as an intervention encompasses many aspects of the life journey such as injury treatment and prevention, patient education, exercise prescription, occupational health assessment, pelvic floor health, continence care for men and women, and falls risk assessment and mitigation practices.

A Pinch Of Prevention’s physiotherapists pride themselves on being highly motivated individuals that are determined to assist you to be the best version of yourself. Our physiotherapists will first assess you and then give you a diagnosis. After that, they will create a treatment plan suitable for you following this four-step process: Release, Re-educate, Reinforce and Retain.

Release: The primary muscular component of the joint that is causing dysfunction.

Re-Educate: The biomechanics of the musculature responsible for the desired movement, to operate more efficiently so as to decrease pain/episodes of painful debility.

Reinforce: Strengthen the appropriate muscles to reduce the risk of future injury.

Retain: How to hold your form during movement so you can perform the functions you need to do to move forward in your life.

A Pinch of Prevention offers physiotherapy treatment to areas including Camp Hill, Carindale, Coopers Plains, Greenslopes, Holland Park, Mansfield, Robertson, Rochedale, Sailsbury, Sunnybank, Tarragindi, Wishart and surrounding areas.

The Advantages of Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is beneficial to people with different health conditions, at different ages and in different stages. Physiotherapy comes in many different forms, all with their own end goals in mind depending on the patient’s individual wants and needs.

Reduce Pain

Physiotherapists are well-trained in many different forms of pain management, all of which aim to reduce feelings of pain.

Improve Movement

Stiffness and/or discomfort can result in a decreased range of motion, which could have a negative impact upon your life. Physiotherapy aims to drive your range of motion by maintaining and improving joint integrity.

Our goal is to support you from the inside out. We can aid in reducing pain, improve mobility and manage any condition you might have.

Strengthen Muscles

Strengthening exercises are a key element of physiotherapy. To do this we support you to work the muscle which encourages its growth, and in time, increases its strength.

Prevent Future Injury

We believe that prevention is not only our name but our calling! Prevention is always better than cure, so we do all we can to prevent any future injuries.

Increase the Quality of Life

What To Expect From Your Physio Appointment?

Physiotherapists are professionals in the musculoskeletal system and are often recommended by GPs for their ability to reduce stiffness and pain. Physiotherapists also work with people with a variety of conditions, aiming to support their bodies to move better and get the most out of life. If you have any concerns or feel like something isn’t right, we are the team for you!

Initial consultations include a comprehensive assessment, informed diagnosis and treatment. This includes taking into account your medical history and relevant symptoms. No two patients’ treatment plans will look the same, even if they have the same condition, so it goes to show that physiotherapy truly is about you! Your treatment options can be varied and should be discussed with your physiotherapist before you begin treatment.

Your physiotherapist should create bespoke treatment and management plans that are suitable to your needs after working together on the problems that you have. Whether that’s a sore knee, headaches, arthritis, or a sports injury, your treatment is centred around you and what you hope to get out of physiotherapy.

Physiotherapists use a range of techniques which include things like joint mobilisation and manipulation, muscular and myofascial release, trigger point release, manual therapy, dry needling, and exercise therapy. They may also recommend active treatments such as rebalancing exercises, clinical Pilates, orthotics, taping, hydrotherapy and electrotherapy. Whatever your physiotherapist suggests for you, they’ve considered it carefully and wholly believe that the treatment/s they’ve selected have the best chance of supporting you reach your goals.

Answers to Your Physiotherapy Questions

Do I need to be referred to a physiotherapist?
Physiotherapists can be considered first-contact independent practitioners. If you have an acute injury, or chronic pain or need to visit us, you don’t require a doctor’s referral. A Pinch Of Physiotherapy’s physiotherapists are happy to collaborate with your healthcare team, whether they are podiatrists, dentists, or another healthcare professional. They are also open to accepting Enhanced Primary Care Plans from your doctor.
What qualifications are required for physios?
Physiotherapy in Australia has a strict regulatory board. It requires successful completion of at least one year of university-level tertiary study, active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association or AHPRA registration and active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association. Each member must complete at least 20 hours in continuing practice education each calendar year to keep their membership active. This allows patients to feel secure that their physiotherapist remains a board-certified professional. They are subject to an ethical code, remain current with research and techniques and have met all of these requirements.
How many physiotherapy sessions will I need?
The number of treatments you may need will vary based on your individual goals, needs and treatment plan. Some people may only require a few sessions while others might need an ongoing, long-term treatment plan.
Is there a desired clothing for physio treatment?
It doesn’t matter if you dress up or down. Wear whatever you are comfortable in. If possible, bring something that will allow us the opportunity to treat the affected areas. For example, if you have knee pain you may want to wear shorts, or if you have shoulder pain, a singlet may be a good idea.
Is physiotherapy covered by Medicare or any private health insurance?
It depends on your personal circumstances. Physiotherapy coverage may also be available through Medicare under an Enhanced Primary Care plan. Private health insurance may or may not cover physiotherapy. We recommend that you speak with your insurer for advice.
How can I tell if physiotherapy is the appropriate treatment for my injury?
If you’re unsure if physiotherapy is right for you, the best way to find out is to get in touch with us. Our physiotherapists will assess your needs and recommend the best treatment options for you.
