People of all ages and walks of life seek physiotherapy to lessen their pain and improve function. This is exactly what we at A Pinch of Prevention are here to assist you with.

What is Physiotherapy and how does it work?

You come to physiotherapy hoping to feel better and be able to move better. But it’s more than that!

As well as a physical therapy treatment, physiotherapy is an art and a discipline that has evolved over many, many years. It was born out of the recognition that a physical injury doesn’t need to be the beginning and the end of a person’s existence. Whatever the injury, there is physiotherapy that can ease your discomfort and feel better. It promotes recovery and helps you return to the activities you love.

You have a variety of treatment options available, including dry needling, massage, joint mobilisation and many others. We work together to find the best form of treatment that suits you. After all, it’s your body– you’re steering this ship, we’re just here to keep you afloat!

Through the art and discipline of physiotherapy new meaning can be restored back to your life. In time, this may enable you to truly live your life again in a manner that brings you joy. If you want to play sport, keep up with the grandkids, or enjoy walks with your dog, physiotherapy can help you!

Physiotherapy can be a valuable tool for improving mobility and well being, no matter your age or condition. Physiotherapy can be a powerful tool to get you back on the sports field, whether you are a student, an office worker, senior citizen or someone who is trying to achieve the highest level of success in your chosen profession.

What to Look Forward To On Your Physio Appointment?

Physiotherapists deal with the musculoskeletal and are often recommended by GPs for treatment that can reduce stiffness and pain. Physiotherapists can serve people with many conditions. If you feel that something ‘isn’t quite right’ or could use some improvement in any way, we’re the team to turn to!

The initial consultation includes a detailed assessment, diagnosis and treatment. This takes into consideration your medical history as well as relevant symptoms. Even if the patient has the same condition, no two treatment plans will be created the same. This goes to show that physiotherapy is all about you. Your treatment options can be varied and should be discussed with your physiotherapist before you begin treatment.

Your physiotherapist will develop treatment and management plans to meet your specific needs. Your treatment should be centred around you, and the results you want from physiotherapy.

Physiotherapists can use various techniques including manual therapy, dry needling, trigger points release, joint mobilisation and manipulation and muscular and myofascial relief. They might also recommend active therapies such as orthotics, taping and hydrotherapy, rebalancing exercises, clinical Pilates or electrotherapy. Your physiotherapist will recommend the right treatment for you. They have carefully considered the options and are confident that they can aid you to achieve your goals.

Your Physiotherapy Questions Answered

Do physiotherapists appointments require a referral?
Physiotherapists can be considered first-contact independent practitioners. If you have an acute injury, or chronic pain or need to visit us, you don’t require a doctor’s referral. A Pinch Of Physiotherapy physiotherapists will gladly work with any healthcare team including podiatrists and dentists and can accept Enhanced Primary Care Plans from your GP.
What qualifications do physios have?
Physiotherapy in Australia is a highly regulated industry that requires successful completion of university-level tertiary studies, active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association (APA) and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Each member must complete at least 20 hours in continuing practice education each calendar year to keep their membership active. These rules allow patients to be confident that their physiotherapists are board-certified professionals, subject to an ethics code of conduct, and fully informed about current research and techniques in their field.
How many sessions of physiotherapy are required?
Based on your goals, treatment plans and individual needs, the number of treatments that you might need may vary. Some may only require a few sessions. Others may need a longer-term, more intensive plan.
What should I wear during a physio appointment?
Here, you don’t need to dress up! Wear what you feel comfortable in and, if possible, something that will allow us access to the affected area. Shorts may be the best option for you if you are experiencing knee pain.
Can I pay for physiotherapy through Medicare or private insurance?
This will depend on your specific condition. Physiotherapy coverage may be available through Medicare with an Enhanced Primary Care Plan, and if you have private health cover this may or may not include physiotherapy– we recommend you check with your insurer if you’re unsure.
How do I determine if physiotherapy is right for me?
You can get in touch with us to determine if physiotherapy is for you. Our physiotherapists will assess your needs, and then determine the best treatment options.
