What To Expect From Your Physio Appointment?

Physiotherapists are professionals in the musculoskeletal system and are often recommended by GPs for their ability to reduce stiffness and pain. Physiotherapists also work with people with a variety of conditions, aiming to support their bodies to move better and get the most out of life. If you have any concerns or feel like something isn’t right, we are the team for you!

The initial consultation includes a detailed assessment, diagnosis and treatment. This takes into consideration your medical history as well as relevant symptoms. Even if the patient has the same condition, no two treatment plans will be created the same. This goes to show that physiotherapy is all about you. Your treatment options are diverse and your physiotherapist should discuss them with you before you begin treatment.

Your physiotherapist should create bespoke treatment and management plans that are suitable to your needs after working together on the problems that you have. It doesn’t matter if you have a sore knee or headaches. Your treatment will be tailored to you and what you expect from physiotherapy.

Physiotherapists can use various techniques including manual therapy, dry needling, trigger points release, joint mobilisation and manipulation and muscular and myofascial relief. They may also recommend active treatments such as rebalancing exercises, clinical Pilates, orthotics, taping, hydrotherapy and electrotherapy. Whatever treatment your physiotherapist suggests, they have considered it thoroughly and fully believe that the treatment they recommend will assist you to reach your goals.

Answers to Your Physiotherapy Questions

Do physiotherapists appointments require a referral?
A physiotherapist is an autonomous first-contact practitioner. This means you don’t need to be referred by a doctor to see us for acute injuries or chronic pain. The physiotherapists of A Pinch Of Physiotherapy are more than happy to work alongside your healthcare team; be they podiatrists, dentists, GPs or naturopaths; and are delighted to accept Enhanced Primary Care plans from your treating physician.
What qualifications does a physio have?
Physiotherapy in Australia has a strict regulatory board. It requires successful completion of at least one year of university-level tertiary study, active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association or AHPRA registration and active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association. To maintain active membership within these regulatory bodies, it is a professional requirement that all members undertake a minimum of 20 hours of Continuing Practice Education (CPE) each calendar year. These rules allow patients to be confident that their physiotherapists are board-certified professionals, subject to an ethics code of conduct, and fully informed about current research and techniques in their field.
How many physio sessions will I need?
The number of treatments you may need will vary based on your individual goals, needs and treatment plan. Some may only require a few sessions. Others may need a longer-term, more intensive plan.
Is there a desired clothing for physio treatment?
There’s no need to dress to impress here! Wear whatever you are comfortable in. If possible, bring something that will allow us the opportunity to treat the affected areas.
Can I pay for physiotherapy through Medicare or private insurance?
It depends on your personal circumstances. Physiotherapy coverage may also be available through Medicare under an Enhanced Primary Care plan. Private health insurance may or may not cover physiotherapy. We recommend that you speak with your insurer for advice.
How do I determine if physiotherapy is right for me?
Contact us if you are unsure if physiotherapy might be right for you. Our physio team will work with you to assess your needs and determine the best possible treatment options, if any, that may be beneficial for you.
