A Pinch of Physiotherapy May Be Just What You Need

Dealing with a sore back, a sprained ankle, or the aches of desk life? You’re in the right place. At A Pinch of Prevention, we’re here to help you feel and function your best.

What is Physiotherapy?

Looking to move and feel better? That’s the heart of physiotherapy – but it also goes beyond just improving symptoms to support your overall wellbeing.

More than physical therapy, physiotherapy is a discipline that has evolved to show that injury isn’t the end of your story. It supports recovery and encourages meaningful progress.

From massage and dry needling to joint mobilisation, we offer a range of treatments tailored to you. No matter your background or condition, physiotherapy can help you move and feel your best.

Our Physio Approach

As an intervention, physiotherapy touches all stages of life, from treating injuries and prescribing exercises to occupational health assessments, pelvic floor care, continence management, and falls risk mitigation.

A Pinch Of Prevention’s physiotherapists are focused on helping you reach your personal physical best, whatever that may look like for you within your own capabilities. We take a structured approach to your care, starting with precise assessment and diagnosis, followed by a personalised 4-step program: Release, Re-educate, Reinforce, and Retain.

Release: Focusing on the key muscle impacting the joint to address the source of dysfunction.

Re-Educate: Helping the right muscles move efficiently to ease pain and lower the risk of future dysfunction.

Reinforce: Strengthening the key muscles to lower the risk of injury happening again.

Retain: Showing you how to preserve proper form during activities, helping you achieve your goals and sustain progress.

What To Expect From Your Physio Appointment?

With a strong focus on the musculoskeletal system, physiotherapists are commonly recommended by GPs to help manage pain and stiffness. We help people move better and get more out of life—so if something feels ‘not quite right’, we’re the team for you!

An initial consultation includes a detailed assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning, taking your symptoms and medical history into account. Every treatment plan is unique—even for the same condition—because physiotherapy is all about you! Your options will be discussed before starting care.

Your physiotherapist works with you to develop a plan that targets your concerns—be it a sore knee, headaches, arthritis, or a sports injury—focusing on your goals for physiotherapy.

Your physiotherapist may use techniques like joint mobilisation, manual therapy, myofascial release, trigger point release, dry needling, and exercise therapy. Each recommendation is thoughtfully selected to give you the best chance of success.

Your Physiotherapy Questions Answered

Do I need to be referred to a physiotherapist?

Physiotherapists are known as autonomous first-contact practitioners, which means that you do not need a doctor’s referral to come and see us if you have an acute injury or chronic pain. A Pinch Of Physiotherapy physiotherapists work with other healthcare professionals, such as dentists, podiatrists, GPs, and naturopaths. We are happy to accept Enhanced primary care plans from your treating doctor.

What qualifications are required for physios?

Physiotherapy is a highly regulated profession in Australia. This includes successful completion of university-level tertiary education, active membership in The Australian Physiotherapist Association and registration with The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Each member must complete at least 20 hours in continuing practice education each calendar year to keep their membership active. These rules allow patients to be confident that their physiotherapists are board-certified professionals, subject to an ethics code of conduct, and fully informed about current research and techniques in their field.

How many sessions of physiotherapy are required?

The number of treatments you may need will vary based on your individual goals, needs and treatment plan. Some people may only require a few sessions while others might need an ongoing, long-term treatment plan.

What should I wear during a physio appointment?

There’s no need to dress to impress here! You can wear whatever you like, but ensure that we can still work on the affected area of your body. Shorts may be the best option for you if you are experiencing knee pain.

Is physiotherapy covered by Medicare or any private health insurance?

This depends on your individual circumstances. Physiotherapy coverage may be available through Medicare with an Enhanced Primary Care Plan, and if you have private health cover this may or may not include physiotherapy– we recommend you check with your insurer if you’re unsure.

How do I know if physiotherapy is the right treatment type for my injury or condition?

Contact us if you are unsure if physiotherapy might be right for you. Our physio team will work with you to assess your needs and determine the best possible treatment options, if any, that may be beneficial for you.
