Have a sore lower back? Bad ankle? Are you feeling the effects of your desk job? We are glad that you have made the first step toward listening to your body. People of all ages, from all walks of life, seek physiotherapy to relieve their pain and improve their functioning. That’s exactly what A Pinch Of Prevention aims to do.

What is Physiotherapy and how does it work?

Physiotherapy is one way to improve your movement and feeling. However, it is more than just that.

Physiotherapy, in addition to being a form of physical therapy, is an art form and a discipline that has been evolving over many, many years. It was born out of the recognition that a physical injury doesn’t need to be the beginning and the end of a person’s existence. Whatever the injury, there is physiotherapy that can ease your discomfort and feel better. It promotes recovery and helps you return to the activities you love.

A variety of treatments are available including massage, dry needling and joint mobilisation. We will work with you to determine the best treatment option for you. This will allow you to feel in complete control. You are in control of your body. We support you to ensure you’re on the right track.

Your life can take on a new meaning by using physiotherapy. In time, this may enable you to truly live your life again in a manner that brings you joy. If you’re a dedicated footy player, an aspiring dancer, or want to keep up with the grandkids, living your dream may be closer than you think!

Physiotherapy is a useful tool that can maximise your mobility and well-being, regardless of your age, condition or injury. Physiotherapy could be the right treatment for you, whether you’re a student or an office worker or senior citizen.

Reinforce: Strengthen the appropriate muscles to reduce the risk of future injury.

Keep: How to keep your form in motion so you can do the tasks you need to make progress in your life.

What to Look Forward To On Your Physio Appointment?

Physiotherapists deal with the musculoskeletal and are often recommended by GPs for treatment that can reduce stiffness and pain. People with various conditions may also be treated by physiotherapists. They aim to improve their mobility and aid them to live a better life. If you feel that something ‘isn’t quite right’ or could use some improvement in any way, we’re the team to turn to!

A consultation is a thorough evaluation and informed diagnosis. It also includes a discussion about your medical history. Even if the patient has the same condition, no two treatment plans will be created the same. This goes to show that physiotherapy is all about you. There are many treatment options available and your physiotherapist should talk with you about them before you start treatment.

Your physiotherapist will develop treatment and management plans to meet your specific needs. It doesn’t matter if you have a sore knee or headaches. Your treatment will be tailored to you and what you expect from physiotherapy.

Physiotherapists use a range of techniques which include things like joint mobilisation and manipulation, muscular and myofascial release, trigger point release, manual therapy, dry needling, and exercise therapy. They may also recommend active treatments such as rebalancing exercises, clinical Pilates, orthotics, taping, hydrotherapy and electrotherapy. No matter what your physiotherapist recommends, they have done extensive research and believe the recommended treatment will be the best for you.

Answers to Your Physiotherapy Questions

Do I need a referral in order to visit a physical therapist?
Physiotherapists can be considered first-contact independent practitioners. If you have an acute injury, or chronic pain or need to visit us, you don’t require a doctor’s referral. A Pinch Of Physiotherapy physiotherapists will gladly work with any healthcare team including podiatrists and dentists and can accept Enhanced Primary Care Plans from your GP.
What qualifications does a qualified physiotherapist have?
Physiotherapy in Australia is a highly regulated industry that requires successful completion of university-level tertiary studies, active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association (APA) and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). To maintain active membership within these regulatory bodies, it is a professional requirement that all members undertake a minimum of 20 hours of Continuing Practice Education (CPE) each calendar year. These rules allow patients to be confident that their physiotherapists are board-certified professionals, subject to an ethics code of conduct, and fully informed about current research and techniques in their field.
How many physio sessions will I need?
It will depend on your personal goals, needs, and treatment plan. For some people may only need a couple of sessions, while others may require a more ongoing and long-term plan.
Is there a desired clothing for physio treatment?
There’s no need to dress to impress here! Wear what you feel comfortable in and, if possible, something that will allow us access to the affected area. For example, if you have knee pain you may want to wear shorts, or if you have shoulder pain, a singlet may be a good idea.
Are Medicare and private health insurance accepted for physiotherapy?
It depends on your personal circumstances. Physiotherapy coverage may also be available through Medicare under an Enhanced Primary Care plan. Private health insurance may or may not cover physiotherapy. We recommend that you speak with your insurer for advice.
How do I know if physiotherapy is the right treatment type for my injury or condition?
You can get in touch with us to determine if physiotherapy is for you. Our physiotherapists will assess your needs and recommend the best treatment options for you.
