What is Physiotherapy?

When you seek healthcare, you want to feel and move better – and that’s exactly what physiotherapy focuses on. But it offers so much more than just symptom relief!

Beyond being a form of physical therapy, physiotherapy is a time-honoured discipline that recognises injury doesn’t define you. There’s always a pathway to recovery and renewal.

With treatments such as massage, dry needling, and joint mobilisation, we tailor your care to suit you. Physiotherapy empowers people of all ages and backgrounds to enhance their movement and overall wellbeing.

Our Physio Approach

From injury recovery and prevention to occupational health, pelvic floor support, continence care, and falls risk management, physiotherapy supports many aspects of your health journey.

A Pinch Of Prevention’s physiotherapists are focused on helping you reach your personal physical best, whatever that may look like for you within your own capabilities. Through detailed assessment and clear diagnosis, our physiotherapists create a tailored plan based on our 4 key steps: Release, Re-educate, Reinforce, and Retain.

Release: Working on the main muscle causing joint dysfunction to promote better movement.

Re-Educate: Training the muscles responsible for movement to work more efficiently, helping to reduce pain and prevent future issues.

Reinforce: Strengthening the key muscles to lower the risk of injury happening again.

Retain: Showing you how to preserve proper form during activities, helping you achieve your goals and sustain progress.

Your Physiotherapy Questions Answered

Do I need to be referred to a physiotherapist?
A physiotherapist is an autonomous first-contact practitioner. This means you don’t need to be referred by a doctor to see us for acute injuries or chronic pain. A Pinch Of Physiotherapy physiotherapists will gladly work with any healthcare team including podiatrists and dentists and can accept Enhanced Primary Care Plans from your GP.
What qualifications does a qualified physiotherapist have?
Physiotherapy in Australia has a strict regulatory board. It requires successful completion of at least one year of university-level tertiary study, active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association or AHPRA registration and active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association. To maintain active membership within these regulatory bodies, it is a professional requirement that all members undertake a minimum of 20 hours of Continuing Practice Education (CPE) each calendar year. These rules allow patients to be confident that their physiotherapists are board-certified professionals, subject to an ethics code of conduct, and fully informed about current research and techniques in their field.
How many sessions of physiotherapy are required?
The number of treatments you may need will vary based on your individual goals, needs and treatment plan. Some may only require a few sessions. Others may need a longer-term, more intensive plan.
Is there a desired clothing for physio treatment?
It doesn’t matter if you dress up or down. Wear what you feel comfortable in and, if possible, something that will allow us access to the affected area. For example, if you have knee pain you may want to wear shorts, or if you have shoulder pain, a singlet may be a good idea.
Are Medicare and private health insurance accepted for physiotherapy?
It depends on your personal circumstances. Physiotherapy coverage might be available through Medicare with an Enhanced Primary Care plan. Private health insurance may or not include physiotherapy – check with your provider.
How do I know if physiotherapy is the right treatment type for my injury or condition?
If you’re unsure if physiotherapy is right for you, the best way to find out is to get in touch with us. Our physiotherapists will assess your needs, and then determine the best treatment options.
