What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is about helping you move and feel better, which is often why people seek care. But there’s much more to it than meets the eye!

Physiotherapy is more than just a treatment – it’s an art and a discipline shaped over many years. No matter the injury, there’s a form of physiotherapy to help you recover and regain your strength.

With treatments such as massage, dry needling, and joint mobilisation, we tailor your care to suit you. Physiotherapy empowers people of all ages and backgrounds to enhance their movement and overall wellbeing.

Our Physio Approach

As an intervention, physiotherapy touches all stages of life, from treating injuries and prescribing exercises to occupational health assessments, pelvic floor care, continence management, and falls risk mitigation.

Our team at A Pinch Of Prevention is dedicated to guiding you towards becoming the best physical version of yourself, in a way that respects your individual journey. We take a structured approach to your care, starting with precise assessment and diagnosis, followed by a personalised 4-step program: Release, Re-educate, Reinforce, and Retain.

Release: Loosening the primary muscle affecting the joint to restore more natural function.

Re-Educate: Training the muscles responsible for movement to work more efficiently, helping to reduce pain and prevent future issues.

Reinforce: Building strength in the right muscles to help prevent future injuries.

Retain: Teaching you how to maintain proper form during movement to support everyday activities and long-term progress.

What To Expect From Your Physio Appointment?

Physiotherapists focus on the musculoskeletal system and are often recommended by GPs for their ability to help ease pain and stiffness. We also work with a wide range of conditions to help you move better and enjoy life to the fullest. If something feels off, we’re here to help!

An initial consultation covers a thorough review of your symptoms and medical history, leading to a diagnosis and tailored treatment plan. Physiotherapy is highly individualised, and your options will be discussed with you before treatment starts.

Treatment and management plans are designed around your unique needs, whether you’re dealing with a sore knee, headaches, arthritis, or a sports injury. Your physiotherapy journey is guided by what you hope to achieve.

Physiotherapists apply a range of techniques including joint mobilisation, muscle and myofascial release, trigger point therapy, manual therapy, dry needling, and exercise therapy. Any treatment recommended is chosen carefully to support you in reaching your goals.

Your Physiotherapy Questions Answered

Do I need a referral in order to visit a physical therapist?
Physiotherapists can be considered first-contact independent practitioners. If you have an acute injury, or chronic pain or need to visit us, you don’t require a doctor’s referral. The physiotherapists of A Pinch Of Physiotherapy are more than happy to work alongside your healthcare team; be they podiatrists, dentists, GPs or naturopaths; and are delighted to accept Enhanced Primary Care plans from your treating physician.
What qualifications does a qualified physiotherapist have?
Physiotherapy in Australia has a strict regulatory board. It requires successful completion of at least one year of university-level tertiary study, active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association or AHPRA registration and active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association. To maintain active membership within these regulatory bodies, it is a professional requirement that all members undertake a minimum of 20 hours of Continuing Practice Education (CPE) each calendar year. This allows patients to feel secure that their physiotherapist remains a board-certified professional. They are subject to an ethical code, remain current with research and techniques and have met all of these requirements.
How many physiotherapy sessions will I need?
Your individual goals, needs and condition will determine how many treatments you need. Some may only require a few sessions. Others may need a longer-term, more intensive plan.
What should I wear during a physio appointment?
You don’t have to dress up to impress! Wear what you feel comfortable in and, if possible, something that will allow us access to the affected area.
Are Medicare and private health insurance accepted for physiotherapy?
It depends on your personal circumstances. You may be eligible for physiotherapy coverage through Medicare with an Enhanced Primary Care Plan. If you have private insurance, this may or might not cover physiotherapy.
How do I know if physiotherapy is the right treatment type for my injury or condition?
If you’re unsure if physiotherapy is right for you, the best way to find out is to get in touch with us. Our physios will meet with you to evaluate your needs and assist you to choose the most beneficial treatment option for you.
