A Pinch of Physiotherapy May Be Just What You Need

Whether you’re nursing a sore back, a sprained ankle, or simply feeling the effects of long hours at a desk, A Pinch of Prevention is here to help you move and feel better.

What is Physiotherapy?

When you seek healthcare, you want to feel and move better – and that’s exactly what physiotherapy focuses on. But it offers so much more than just symptom relief!

More than physical therapy, physiotherapy is a discipline that has evolved to show that injury isn’t the end of your story. It supports recovery and encourages meaningful progress.

We offer a broad range of treatments like massage, dry needling, and joint mobilisation. Our goal is to work with you to find the right approach, helping you take charge of your mobility and wellbeing.

Our Physio Approach

Physiotherapy covers many areas of life, including injury treatment and prevention, education, exercise programs, occupational health checks, pelvic floor support, continence care, and falls prevention.

At A Pinch Of Prevention, our physiotherapists near New Farm are committed to supporting you in achieving your personal best, working within what’s possible for your body and goals. Our physiotherapists begin with a thorough assessment and accurate diagnosis, then develop a personalised treatment plan using our 4-step process: Release, Re-educate, Reinforce, and Retain.

Release: Working on the main muscle causing joint dysfunction to promote better movement.

Re-Educate: Helping the right muscles move efficiently to ease pain and lower the risk of future dysfunction.

Reinforce: Supporting recovery by strengthening muscles and reducing the chance of re-injury.

Retain: Helping you hold correct form through movement, allowing you to perform daily tasks and keep moving forward.

What To Expect From Your Physio Appointment?

GPs often refer patients to physiotherapists because of their expertise in reducing pain and stiffness. We work with many conditions to support better movement and a fuller life. If you feel something could improve, our team is ready to assist!

An initial consultation includes a detailed assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning, taking your symptoms and medical history into account. Every treatment plan is unique—even for the same condition—because physiotherapy is all about you! Your options will be discussed before starting care.

Your physiotherapist works with you to develop a plan that targets your concerns—be it a sore knee, headaches, arthritis, or a sports injury—focusing on your goals for physiotherapy.

Your physiotherapist may use techniques like joint mobilisation, manual therapy, myofascial release, trigger point release, dry needling, and exercise therapy. Each recommendation is thoughtfully selected to give you the best chance of success.

Your Physiotherapy Questions Answered

Do physiotherapists appointments require a referral?

Physiotherapists can be considered first-contact independent practitioners. If you have an acute injury, or chronic pain or need to visit us, you don’t require a doctor’s referral. The physiotherapists of A Pinch Of Physiotherapy are more than happy to work alongside your healthcare team; be they podiatrists, dentists, GPs or naturopaths; and are delighted to accept Enhanced Primary Care plans from your treating physician.

What qualifications does a qualified physiotherapist have?

Physiotherapy in Australia has a strict regulatory board. It requires successful completion of at least one year of university-level tertiary study, active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association or AHPRA registration and active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association. All members must complete at least 20 hours of continuing education each year in order to remain active members of these regulatory bodies. This allows patients to feel secure that their physiotherapist remains a board-certified professional. They are subject to an ethical code, remain current with research and techniques and have met all of these requirements.

How many physio sessions do I need?

Your individual goals, needs and condition will determine how many treatments you need. Some people may only require a few sessions while others might need an ongoing, long-term treatment plan.

What should I wear during a physio appointment?

You don’t have to dress up to impress! Wear whatever you’re comfortable in, and wherever possible, wear something that will allow us to work on the affected area. For example, if you have knee pain you may want to wear shorts, or if you have shoulder pain, a singlet may be a good idea.

Can I pay for physiotherapy through Medicare or private insurance?

This will depend on your specific condition. Physiotherapy coverage may be available through Medicare with an Enhanced Primary Care Plan, and if you have private health cover this may or may not include physiotherapy– we recommend you check with your insurer if you’re unsure.

How do I know if physiotherapy is the right treatment type for my injury or condition?

Get in touch with our team if you aren’t sure physiotherapy would be right for your needs. Our physio team will work with you to assess your needs and determine the best possible treatment options, if any, that may be beneficial for you.
