Dealing with a sore back, a sprained ankle, or the aches of desk life? You’re in the right place. At A Pinch of Prevention, we’re here to help you feel and function your best.

What is Physiotherapy?

Feeling and moving better is often the goal when seeking healthcare, and physiotherapy certainly helps with that – while also offering a broader range of benefits!

Beyond being a form of physical therapy, physiotherapy is a time-honoured discipline that recognises injury doesn’t define you. There’s always a pathway to recovery and renewal.

We offer a broad range of treatments like massage, dry needling, and joint mobilisation. Our goal is to work with you to find the right approach, helping you take charge of your mobility and wellbeing.

Our Physio Approach

As an intervention, physiotherapy touches all stages of life, from treating injuries and prescribing exercises to occupational health assessments, pelvic floor care, continence management, and falls risk mitigation.

At A Pinch Of Prevention, our physiotherapists are committed to supporting you in achieving your personal best, working within what’s possible for your body and goals. At A Pinch Of Prevention, we assess and diagnose carefully before crafting your individual treatment plan, built around our proven 4-step approach: Release, Re-educate, Reinforce, and Retain.

Release: Targeting the primary muscle around the joint that’s contributing to the dysfunction.

Re-Educate: Training the muscles responsible for movement to work more efficiently, helping to reduce pain and prevent future issues.

Reinforce: Strengthening the key muscles to lower the risk of injury happening again.

Retain: Teaching you how to maintain proper form during movement to support everyday activities and long-term progress.

Your Physiotherapy Questions Answered

Do I need to be referred to a physiotherapist?

Physiotherapists can be considered first-contact independent practitioners. If you have an acute injury, or chronic pain or need to visit us, you don’t require a doctor’s referral. A Pinch Of Physiotherapy physiotherapists work with other healthcare professionals, such as dentists, podiatrists, GPs, and naturopaths. We are happy to accept Enhanced primary care plans from your treating doctor.

What qualifications does a qualified physiotherapist have?

Physiotherapy in Australia is a highly regulated industry that requires successful completion of university-level tertiary studies, active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association (APA) and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Each member must complete at least 20 hours in continuing practice education each calendar year to keep their membership active. These rules allow patients to be confident that their physiotherapists are board-certified professionals, subject to an ethics code of conduct, and fully informed about current research and techniques in their field.

How many sessions of physiotherapy are required?

It will depend on your personal goals, needs, and treatment plan. Some may only require a few sessions. Others may need a longer-term, more intensive plan.

What should I wear for my physio appointment?

Here, you don’t need to dress up! Wear whatever you’re comfortable in, and wherever possible, wear something that will allow us to work on the affected area. For example, if you have knee pain you may want to wear shorts, or if you have shoulder pain, a singlet may be a good idea.

Are Medicare and private health insurance accepted for physiotherapy?

It all depends on your particular case. Physiotherapy coverage may be available through Medicare with an Enhanced Primary Care Plan, and if you have private health cover this may or may not include physiotherapy– we recommend you check with your insurer if you’re unsure.

How do I determine if physiotherapy is right for me?

If you’re unsure if physiotherapy is right for you, the best way to find out is to get in touch with us. Our physiotherapists will assess your needs and recommend the best treatment options for you.
