This will allow you to feel in complete control. Remember, this is your body. You’re the one who controls it and we are here to support you manage it.

You can find new meaning in your life by restoring it through the discipline and art of physiotherapy. In time, this may enable you to truly live your life again in a manner that brings you joy. If you’re a dedicated footy player, an aspiring dancer, or want to keep up with the grandkids, living your dream may be closer than you think!

Whether you’re a student, office worker, senior citizen, or aiming to become the next best sports star the world has ever seen, physiotherapy may be just what you need to assist you to get back out there.

What to Look Forward To On Your Physio Appointment?

Physiotherapists work with the musculoskeletal system, and are often recommended by GPs due to their ability to assist to reduce pain and stiffness. A variety of conditions can also be assisted by physiotherapists. Their goal is to make people’s lives easier and their bodies function better. We can work together if something seems ‘off’ or needs improvement.

Initial consultations include a comprehensive assessment, informed diagnosis and treatment. This includes taking into account your medical history and relevant symptoms. No two patients’ treatment plans will look the same, even if they have the same condition, so it goes to show that physiotherapy truly is about you! Your treatment options are diverse and your physiotherapist should discuss them with you before you begin treatment.

Your physiotherapist should develop treatment and management plans that suit your needs so that together, you can address the specific problems you are experiencing. Your treatment should be centred around you, and the results you want from physiotherapy.

A variety of techniques are used by physiotherapists, including joint mobilisation and manipulation, muscle and myofascial releases, trigger point release and manual therapy. Dry needling and exercise therapy are also some of the options. They may also recommend active treatment such as electrotherapy, taping, hydrotherapy, and clinical Pilates. Whatever treatment your physiotherapist suggests, they have considered it thoroughly and fully believe that the treatment they recommend will assist you to reach your goals.

Answers to Your Physiotherapy Questions

Do physiotherapists appointments require a referral?
Physiotherapists can be considered first-contact independent practitioners. If you have an acute injury, or chronic pain or need to visit us, you don’t require a doctor’s referral. A Pinch Of Physiotherapy’s physiotherapists are happy to collaborate with your healthcare team, whether they are podiatrists, dentists, or another healthcare professional. They are also open to accepting Enhanced Primary Care Plans from your doctor.
What qualifications do physios have?
Physiotherapy is a highly regulated profession in Australia. This includes successful completion of university-level tertiary education, active membership in The Australian Physiotherapist Association and registration with The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. It is a requirement for all members to complete at least 20 hours of continuing practice education (CPE) annually in order to maintain an active membership with these regulatory bodies. This allows patients to feel secure that their physiotherapist remains a board-certified professional. They are subject to an ethical code, remain current with research and techniques and have met all of these requirements.
How many physiotherapy sessions will I need?
It will depend on your personal goals, needs, and treatment plan. Some may only require a few sessions. Others may need a longer-term, more intensive plan.
Is there a desired clothing for physio treatment?
You don’t have to dress up to impress! You can wear whatever you like, but ensure that we can still work on the affected area of your body. You might wear shorts if your knee pain is severe, and a singlet if you have pain in your shoulders.
Are Medicare and private health insurance accepted for physiotherapy?
It all depends on your particular case. Physiotherapy coverage may be available through Medicare with an Enhanced Primary Care Plan, and if you have private health cover this may or may not include physiotherapy– we recommend you check with your insurer if you’re unsure.
How do I determine if physiotherapy is right for me?
