What is Physiotherapy and how does it work?

Visiting physiotherapy means you want to feel and move better. However, it is more than just that.

As well as a physical therapy treatment, physiotherapy is an art and a discipline that has evolved over many, many years. It was created out of the understanding that a personal injury does not necessarily have to be the end of a person’s journey in life. Whatever the injury, there is physiotherapy that can ease your discomfort and feel better. It promotes recovery and helps you return to the activities you love.

A variety of treatments are available including massage, dry needling and joint mobilisation. We will work with you to determine the best treatment option for you. This will allow you to feel in complete control. It’s your body, you are the captain of your ship. We’re here to support you stay afloat.

You can find new meaning in your life by restoring it through the discipline and art of physiotherapy. In time, this may enable you to truly live your life again in a manner that brings you joy. If you’re a dedicated footy player, an aspiring dancer, or want to keep up with the grandkids, living your dream may be closer than you think!

Physiotherapy is a useful tool that can maximise your mobility and well-being, regardless of your age, condition or injury. Physiotherapy can help you whether you are a student, athlete, or senior citizen.

Our Physio Approach

A Pinch of Prevention’s Physiotherapy covers many aspects of the life path, such as injury treatment, prevention, and patient education.

A Pinch Of Prevention’s physiotherapists have a passion for supporting people achieve their physical best. Our physiotherapists begin your treatment by performing a thorough assessment. This is followed by a tailored treatment regimen that incorporates our 4-step process, which includes Release, Re-educate, Reinforce and Retain.

Release: The primary muscle that causes the dysfunction.

Re-Educate: The biomechanics of the musculature responsible for the desired movement, to operate more efficiently so as to decrease pain/episodes of painful debility.

Reinforce: Strengthen the appropriate muscles to reduce the risk of future injury.

Retain: How to hold your form during movement so you can perform the functions you need to do to move forward in your life.

A Pinch of Prevention offers physiotherapy treatment to areas including Camp Hill, Carina, Carindale, Greenslopes, Holland Park, Mansfield, Robertson, Rochedale, Salisbury, Sunnybank, Tarragindi, Wishart and surrounding areas.

The Benefits of Physiotherapy

A variety of health issues can be addressed by physiotherapy. They are available to people at all stages of life and activities. Physiotherapy can be done in many ways, each with its own set of goals depending on the needs and desires of the patient.

Reduce Pain

Physiotherapists are well-trained in many different forms of pain management, all of which aim to reduce feelings of pain.

Improve Movement

Stiffness and/or pain may lead to a reduced range of movement, which may have a negative impact on your life. Physiotherapy aims at improving your range of motion and maintaining joint integrity.

We want to see you heal from within by reducing pain, enhancing mobility, and providing treatment for your symptoms.

Strengthen Muscles

Strengthening exercises are an important part of physiotherapy. This involves working the muscle to encourage its growth and increase its strength.

Prevent Future Injury

A Pinch of Prevention is more than our name. It’s how we want to do things! Prevention is always better than cure. We do our best to serve our patients and ensure they prevent any future injuries.

An Improved Quality of Life

Life is there to be lived, so don’t waste a minute more not feeling like the best version of yourself. Physiotherapy can increase your happiness and quality of life by boosting endorphin levels.

What to Look Forward To On Your Physio Appointment?

Physiotherapists treat the musculoskeletal systems and are often recommended by GPs because of their ability to decrease pain and stiffness. Physiotherapists can serve people with many conditions. We can work together if something seems ‘off’ or needs improvement.

An initial consultation involves a thorough assessment and informed diagnosis and treatment, which considers relevant symptoms and your medical history. No two patients’ treatment plans will look the same, even if they have the same condition, so it goes to show that physiotherapy truly is about you! You have many options and your physiotherapist will discuss them with you.

Your physiotherapist will develop treatment and management plans to meet your specific needs. You and your goals for physiotherapy are the focal points to the treatment.

Physiotherapists use a range of techniques which include things like joint mobilisation and manipulation, muscular and myofascial release, trigger point release, manual therapy, dry needling, and exercise therapy. They may also recommend active treatment such as electrotherapy, taping, hydrotherapy, and clinical Pilates. Whatever treatment your physiotherapist suggests, they have considered it thoroughly and fully believe that the treatment they recommend will assist you to reach your goals.

Your Physiotherapy Questions Answered

Do physiotherapists appointments require a referral?
A physiotherapist is an autonomous first-contact practitioner. This means you don’t need to be referred by a doctor to see us for acute injuries or chronic pain. A Pinch Of Physiotherapy physiotherapists work with other healthcare professionals, such as dentists, podiatrists, GPs, and naturopaths. We are happy to accept Enhanced primary care plans from your treating doctor.
What qualifications does a qualified physiotherapist have?
Physiotherapy is a highly regulated profession in Australia. This includes successful completion of university-level tertiary education, active membership in The Australian Physiotherapist Association and registration with The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. To maintain active membership within these regulatory bodies, it is a professional requirement that all members undertake a minimum of 20 hours of Continuing Practice Education (CPE) each calendar year. Patients can feel assured that their physiotherapist has been board-certified, adheres to an ethical code and is up to date with the latest research in their field.
How many sessions of physiotherapy are required?
Based on your goals, treatment plans and individual needs, the number of treatments that you might need may vary. For some, they might only need a few sessions. Others might require a long-term and more comprehensive plan.
Is there a desired clothing for physio treatment?
It doesn’t matter if you dress up or down. Wear what you feel comfortable in and, if possible, something that will allow us access to the affected area. Shorts may be the best option for you if you are experiencing knee pain.
Is physiotherapy covered by Medicare or any private health insurance?
This will depend on your specific condition. Physiotherapy coverage may also be available through Medicare under an Enhanced Primary Care plan. Private health insurance may or may not cover physiotherapy. We recommend that you speak with your insurer for advice.
How do I know if physiotherapy is the right treatment type for my injury or condition?
You can get in touch with us to determine if physiotherapy is for you. Our physiotherapists will assess your needs and recommend the best treatment options for you.
