A Pinch of Physiotherapy May Be Just What You Need

Whether you’re nursing a sore back, a sprained ankle, or simply feeling the effects of long hours at a desk, A Pinch of Prevention is here to help you move and feel better.

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is about helping you move and feel better, which is often why people seek care. But there’s much more to it than meets the eye!

Beyond being a form of physical therapy, physiotherapy is a time-honoured discipline that recognises injury doesn’t define you. There’s always a pathway to recovery and renewal.

A variety of treatments are available, including massage, dry needling, and joint mobilisation. We work with you to find the best fit, helping you take control of your recovery. Physiotherapy can support your mobility and wellbeing at any stage of life.

Our Physio Approach

As an intervention, physiotherapy touches all stages of life, from treating injuries and prescribing exercises to occupational health assessments, pelvic floor care, continence management, and falls risk mitigation.

Our physios near Greenslopes at A Pinch Of Prevention is dedicated to guiding you towards becoming the best physical version of yourself, in a way that respects your individual journey. Through detailed assessment and clear diagnosis, our physiotherapists create a tailored plan based on our 4 key steps: Release, Re-educate, Reinforce, and Retain.

Release: Working on the main muscle causing joint dysfunction to promote better movement.

Re-Educate: Guiding the muscles involved in movement to function properly, decreasing discomfort and preventing recurring pain.

Reinforce: Building strength in the right muscles to help prevent future injuries.

Retain: Teaching you how to maintain proper form during movement to support everyday activities and long-term progress.

What To Expect From Your Physio Appointment?

With a strong focus on the musculoskeletal system, physiotherapists are commonly recommended by GPs to help manage pain and stiffness. We help people move better and get more out of life—so if something feels ‘not quite right’, we’re the team for you!

During your initial consultation, we conduct a full assessment and diagnosis based on your symptoms and medical background. Treatment plans are tailored individually—even for the same condition—and your physiotherapist will explain your options before beginning care.

Together with your physiotherapist, you’ll build a plan tailored to your needs, whether you’re managing knee pain, headaches, arthritis, or recovering from a sports injury. Your care is all about you.

Physiotherapists apply a range of techniques including joint mobilisation, muscle and myofascial release, trigger point therapy, manual therapy, dry needling, and exercise therapy. Any treatment recommended is chosen carefully to support you in reaching your goals.

Your Physiotherapy Questions Answered

Do I need to be referred to a physiotherapist?

Physiotherapists can be considered first-contact independent practitioners. If you have an acute injury, or chronic pain or need to visit us, you don’t require a doctor’s referral. A Pinch Of Physiotherapy’s physiotherapists are happy to collaborate with your healthcare team, whether they are podiatrists, dentists, or another healthcare professional. They are also open to accepting Enhanced Primary Care Plans from your doctor.

What qualifications does a physio have?

Physiotherapy in Australia has a strict regulatory board. It requires successful completion of at least one year of university-level tertiary study, active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association or AHPRA registration and active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association. To maintain active membership within these regulatory bodies, it is a professional requirement that all members undertake a minimum of 20 hours of Continuing Practice Education (CPE) each calendar year. These rules allow patients to be confident that their physiotherapists are board-certified professionals, subject to an ethics code of conduct, and fully informed about current research and techniques in their field.

How many sessions of physiotherapy are required?

Your individual goals, needs and condition will determine how many treatments you need. For some, they might only need a few sessions. Others might require a long-term and more comprehensive plan.

What should I wear during a physio appointment?

Here, you don’t need to dress up! Wear what you feel comfortable in and, if possible, something that will allow us access to the affected area. Shorts may be the best option for you if you are experiencing knee pain.

Is physiotherapy covered by Medicare or any private health insurance?

This will depend on your specific condition. Physiotherapy coverage may also be available through Medicare under an Enhanced Primary Care plan. Private health insurance may or may not cover physiotherapy. We recommend that you speak with your insurer for advice.

How can I tell if physiotherapy is the appropriate treatment for my injury?

If you’re unsure if physiotherapy is right for you, the best way to find out is to get in touch with us. Our physiotherapists will assess your needs, and then determine the best treatment options.
