A Pinch of Physiotherapy May Be Just What You Need

Whether you’re nursing a sore back, a sprained ankle, or simply feeling the effects of long hours at a desk, A Pinch of Prevention is here to help you move and feel better.

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is about helping you move and feel better, which is often why people seek care. But there’s much more to it than meets the eye!

Beyond being a form of physical therapy, physiotherapy is a time-honoured discipline that recognises injury doesn’t define you. There’s always a pathway to recovery and renewal.

From massage and dry needling to joint mobilisation, we offer a range of treatments tailored to you. No matter your background or condition, physiotherapy can help you move and feel your best.

Our Physio Approach

Physiotherapy covers many areas of life, including injury treatment and prevention, education, exercise programs, occupational health checks, pelvic floor support, continence care, and falls prevention.

At A Pinch Of Prevention, our physiotherapists near Salisbury are committed to supporting you in achieving your personal best, working within what’s possible for your body and goals. Through detailed assessment and clear diagnosis, our physiotherapists create a tailored plan based on our 4 key steps: Release, Re-educate, Reinforce, and Retain.

Release: Loosening the primary muscle affecting the joint to restore more natural function.

Re-Educate: Guiding the muscles involved in movement to function properly, decreasing discomfort and preventing recurring pain.

Reinforce: Building strength in the right muscles to help prevent future injuries.

Retain: Helping you hold correct form through movement, allowing you to perform daily tasks and keep moving forward.

What To Expect From Your Physio Appointment?

Physiotherapists work with the body’s musculoskeletal system and are trusted by GPs to help with pain, stiffness, and mobility. If you’re not feeling your best, we’re here to help you get back on track!

An initial consultation includes a detailed assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning, taking your symptoms and medical history into account. Every treatment plan is unique—even for the same condition—because physiotherapy is all about you! Your options will be discussed before starting care.

Your physiotherapist will create treatment and management plans tailored to your needs, helping you address specific issues like a sore knee, headaches, arthritis, or sports injuries. Your goals are always at the centre of your care.

From joint mobilisation and manual therapy to dry needling and exercise programs, physiotherapists draw from a wide range of techniques. Any approach suggested is carefully considered to help you achieve your goals.

Your Physiotherapy Questions Answered

Do physiotherapists appointments require a referral?

Physiotherapists are known as autonomous first-contact practitioners, which means that you do not need a doctor’s referral to come and see us if you have an acute injury or chronic pain. The physiotherapists of A Pinch Of Physiotherapy are more than happy to work alongside your healthcare team; be they podiatrists, dentists, GPs or naturopaths; and are delighted to accept Enhanced Primary Care plans from your treating physician.

What qualifications are required for physios?

Physiotherapy is a highly regulated profession in Australia. This includes successful completion of university-level tertiary education, active membership in The Australian Physiotherapist Association and registration with The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. To maintain active membership within these regulatory bodies, it is a professional requirement that all members undertake a minimum of 20 hours of Continuing Practice Education (CPE) each calendar year. Compliance with these rules allows patients to feel confident that their physiotherapist is a board-certified professional, subject to an ethical code of conduct and remains fully versed with current research and techniques within their field

How many sessions of physiotherapy are required?

The number of treatments you may need will vary based on your individual goals, needs and treatment plan. Some people may only require a few sessions while others might need an ongoing, long-term treatment plan.

Is there a desired clothing for physio treatment?

You don’t have to dress up to impress! Wear whatever you’re comfortable in, and wherever possible, wear something that will allow us to work on the affected area. For example, if you have knee pain you may want to wear shorts, or if you have shoulder pain, a singlet may be a good idea.

Is physiotherapy covered under Medicare or any private health insurance?

It all depends on your particular case. Physiotherapy coverage might be available through Medicare with an Enhanced Primary Care plan. Private health insurance may or not include physiotherapy – check with your provider.

How do I determine if physiotherapy is right for me?

Contact us if you are unsure if physiotherapy might be right for you. Our physio team will work with you to assess your needs and determine the best possible treatment options, if any, that may be beneficial for you.
