What is Physiotherapy?

When you seek healthcare, you want to feel and move better – and that’s exactly what physiotherapy focuses on. But it offers so much more than just symptom relief!

Beyond being a form of physical therapy, physiotherapy is a time-honoured discipline that recognises injury doesn’t define you. There’s always a pathway to recovery and renewal.

A variety of treatments are available, including massage, dry needling, and joint mobilisation. We work with you to find the best fit, helping you take control of your recovery. Physiotherapy can support your mobility and wellbeing at any stage of life.

Our Physio Approach

From injury recovery and prevention to occupational health, pelvic floor support, continence care, and falls risk management, physiotherapy supports many aspects of your health journey.

Our team at A Pinch Of Prevention is dedicated to guiding you towards becoming the best physical version of yourself, in a way that respects your individual journey. We take a structured approach to your care, starting with precise assessment and diagnosis, followed by a personalised 4-step program: Release, Re-educate, Reinforce, and Retain.

Release: Loosening the primary muscle affecting the joint to restore more natural function.

Re-Educate: Guiding the muscles involved in movement to function properly, decreasing discomfort and preventing recurring pain.

Reinforce: Strengthening the key muscles to lower the risk of injury happening again.

Retain: Guiding you to maintain good movement patterns so you can continue to live actively and confidently.

What To Expect From Your Physio Appointment?

With a strong focus on the musculoskeletal system, physiotherapists are commonly recommended by GPs to help manage pain and stiffness. We help people move better and get more out of life—so if something feels ‘not quite right’, we’re the team for you!

During your initial consultation, we conduct a full assessment and diagnosis based on your symptoms and medical background. Treatment plans are tailored individually—even for the same condition—and your physiotherapist will explain your options before beginning care.

Together with your physiotherapist, you’ll build a plan tailored to your needs, whether you’re managing knee pain, headaches, arthritis, or recovering from a sports injury. Your care is all about you.

Your physiotherapist may use techniques like joint mobilisation, manual therapy, myofascial release, trigger point release, dry needling, and exercise therapy. Each recommendation is thoughtfully selected to give you the best chance of success.

Your Physiotherapy Questions Answered

Do I need a referral to see a physio?

Physiotherapists can be seen without the need for a referral from a doctor. A Pinch Of Physiotherapy physiotherapists will gladly work with any healthcare team including podiatrists and dentists and can accept Enhanced Primary Care Plans from your GP.

What qualifications does a qualified physiotherapist have?

Physiotherapy is a highly regulated profession in Australia. This includes successful completion of university-level tertiary education, active membership in The Australian Physiotherapist Association and registration with The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Each member must complete at least 20 hours in continuing practice education each calendar year to keep their membership active. Compliance with these rules allows patients to feel confident that their physiotherapist is a board-certified professional, subject to an ethical code of conduct and remains fully versed with current research and techniques within their field

How many physiotherapy sessions will I need?

The number of treatments you may need will vary based on your individual goals, needs and treatment plan. For some, they might only need a few sessions. Others might require a long-term and more comprehensive plan.

What should I wear for my physio appointment?

You don’t have to dress up to impress! Wear what you feel comfortable in and, if possible, something that will allow us access to the affected area. Shorts may be the best option for you if you are experiencing knee pain.

Can I pay for physiotherapy through Medicare or private insurance?

This depends on your individual circumstances. You may be eligible for physiotherapy coverage through Medicare with an Enhanced Primary Care Plan. If you have private insurance, this may or might not cover physiotherapy.

How do I determine if physiotherapy is right for me?

Get in touch with our team if you aren’t sure physiotherapy would be right for your needs. Our physiotherapists will assess your needs and recommend the best treatment options for you.
