What is Physiotherapy?

Our Physio Approach

As an intervention, physiotherapy touches all stages of life, from treating injuries and prescribing exercises to occupational health assessments, pelvic floor care, continence management, and falls risk mitigation.

The physiotherapists at A Pinch Of Prevention are passionate about helping you become the best physical version of yourself, in a way that’s realistic and tailored to you. Through detailed assessment and clear diagnosis, our physiotherapists create a tailored plan based on our 4 key steps: Release, Re-educate, Reinforce, and Retain.

Release: Loosening the primary muscle affecting the joint to restore more natural function.

Re-Educate: Training the muscles responsible for movement to work more efficiently, helping to reduce pain and prevent future issues.

Reinforce: Supporting recovery by strengthening muscles and reducing the chance of re-injury.

Retain: Guiding you to maintain good movement patterns so you can continue to live actively and confidently.

What To Expect From Your Physio Appointment?

With a strong focus on the musculoskeletal system, physiotherapists are commonly recommended by GPs to help manage pain and stiffness. We help people move better and get more out of life—so if something feels ‘not quite right’, we’re the team for you!

During your initial consultation, we conduct a full assessment and diagnosis based on your symptoms and medical background. Treatment plans are tailored individually—even for the same condition—and your physiotherapist will explain your options before beginning care.

Your physiotherapist works with you to develop a plan that targets your concerns—be it a sore knee, headaches, arthritis, or a sports injury—focusing on your goals for physiotherapy.

From joint mobilisation and manual therapy to dry needling and exercise programs, physiotherapists draw from a wide range of techniques. Any approach suggested is carefully considered to help you achieve your goals.

Your Physiotherapy Questions Answered

Do physiotherapists appointments require a referral?

Physiotherapists can be seen without the need for a referral from a doctor. A Pinch Of Physiotherapy physiotherapists will gladly work with any healthcare team including podiatrists and dentists and can accept Enhanced Primary Care Plans from your GP.

What qualifications do physios have?

Physiotherapy in Australia is a highly regulated industry that requires successful completion of university-level tertiary studies, active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association (APA) and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). All members must complete at least 20 hours of continuing education each year in order to remain active members of these regulatory bodies. Patients can feel assured that their physiotherapist has been board-certified, adheres to an ethical code and is up to date with the latest research in their field.

How many physio sessions will I need?

It will depend on your personal goals, needs, and treatment plan. Some may only require a few sessions. Others may need a longer-term, more intensive plan.

What should I wear for my physio appointment?

It doesn’t matter if you dress up or down. Wear whatever you’re comfortable in, and wherever possible, wear something that will allow us to work on the affected area. For example, if you have knee pain you may want to wear shorts, or if you have shoulder pain, a singlet may be a good idea.

Is physiotherapy covered by Medicare or any private health insurance?

It all depends on your particular case. Physiotherapy coverage may be available through Medicare with an Enhanced Primary Care Plan, and if you have private health cover this may or may not include physiotherapy– we recommend you check with your insurer if you’re unsure.

How do I know if physiotherapy is the right treatment type for my injury or condition?

Get in touch with our team if you aren’t sure physiotherapy would be right for your needs. Our physio team will work with you to assess your needs and determine the best possible treatment options, if any, that may be beneficial for you.
