What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is about helping you move and feel better, which is often why people seek care. But there’s much more to it than meets the eye!

Physiotherapy is more than just a treatment – it’s an art and a discipline shaped over many years. No matter the injury, there’s a form of physiotherapy to help you recover and regain your strength.

A variety of treatments are available, including massage, dry needling, and joint mobilisation. We work with you to find the best fit, helping you take control of your recovery. Physiotherapy can support your mobility and wellbeing at any stage of life.

Our Physio Approach

From injury recovery and prevention to occupational health, pelvic floor support, continence care, and falls risk management, physiotherapy supports many aspects of your health journey.

A Pinch Of Prevention’s physiotherapists are focused on helping you reach your personal physical best, whatever that may look like for you within your own capabilities. Our physiotherapists begin with a thorough assessment and accurate diagnosis, then develop a personalised treatment plan using our 4-step process: Release, Re-educate, Reinforce, and Retain.

Release: Loosening the primary muscle affecting the joint to restore more natural function.

Re-Educate: Improving the biomechanics of key muscles to promote smoother movement and minimise painful episodes.

Reinforce: Building strength in the right muscles to help prevent future injuries.

Retain: Teaching you how to maintain proper form during movement to support everyday activities and long-term progress.

What To Expect From Your Physio Appointment?

GPs often refer patients to physiotherapists because of their expertise in reducing pain and stiffness. We work with many conditions to support better movement and a fuller life. If you feel something could improve, our team is ready to assist!

An initial consultation covers a thorough review of your symptoms and medical history, leading to a diagnosis and tailored treatment plan. Physiotherapy is highly individualised, and your options will be discussed with you before treatment starts.

Together with your physiotherapist, you’ll build a plan tailored to your needs, whether you’re managing knee pain, headaches, arthritis, or recovering from a sports injury. Your care is all about you.

Techniques like joint mobilisation, muscle release, dry needling, and tailored exercise therapy are part of physiotherapy care. Whatever is recommended has been thoughtfully chosen to best support your progress.

Your Physiotherapy Questions Answered

Do physiotherapists appointments require a referral?

Physiotherapists can be considered first-contact independent practitioners. If you have an acute injury, or chronic pain or need to visit us, you don’t require a doctor’s referral. A Pinch Of Physiotherapy physiotherapists will gladly work with any healthcare team including podiatrists and dentists and can accept Enhanced Primary Care Plans from your GP.

What qualifications are required for physios?

Physiotherapy in Australia is a highly regulated industry that requires successful completion of university-level tertiary studies, active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association (APA) and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). It is a requirement for all members to complete at least 20 hours of continuing practice education (CPE) annually in order to maintain an active membership with these regulatory bodies. Patients can feel assured that their physiotherapist has been board-certified, adheres to an ethical code and is up to date with the latest research in their field.

How many physio sessions do I need?

The number of treatments you may need will vary based on your individual goals, needs and treatment plan. Some may only require a few sessions. Others may need a longer-term, more intensive plan.

Is there a desired clothing for physio treatment?

It doesn’t matter if you dress up or down. You can wear whatever you like, but ensure that we can still work on the affected area of your body. For example, if you have knee pain you may want to wear shorts, or if you have shoulder pain, a singlet may be a good idea.

Are Medicare and private health insurance accepted for physiotherapy?

This will depend on your specific condition. Physiotherapy coverage may also be available through Medicare under an Enhanced Primary Care plan. Private health insurance may or may not cover physiotherapy. We recommend that you speak with your insurer for advice.

How can I tell if physiotherapy is the appropriate treatment for my injury?

Get in touch with our team if you aren’t sure physiotherapy would be right for your needs. Our physiotherapists will assess your needs, and then determine the best treatment options.
