A Pinch of Physiotherapy May Be Just What You Need

Back pain, a sprained ankle, or everyday strain—whatever brought you here, welcome. At A Pinch of Prevention, we support people of all ages in reducing pain and improving movement.

What is Physiotherapy?

Feeling and moving better is often the goal when seeking healthcare, and physiotherapy certainly helps with that – while also offering a broader range of benefits!

More than physical therapy, physiotherapy is a discipline that has evolved to show that injury isn’t the end of your story. It supports recovery and encourages meaningful progress.

With treatments such as massage, dry needling, and joint mobilisation, we tailor your care to suit you. Physiotherapy empowers people of all ages and backgrounds to enhance their movement and overall wellbeing.

Our Physio Approach

As an intervention, physiotherapy touches all stages of life, from treating injuries and prescribing exercises to occupational health assessments, pelvic floor care, continence management, and falls risk mitigation.

At A Pinch Of Prevention, our physiotherapists are committed to supporting you in achieving your personal best, working within what’s possible for your body and goals. We take a structured approach to your care, starting with precise assessment and diagnosis, followed by a personalised 4-step program: Release, Re-educate, Reinforce, and Retain.

Release: Targeting the primary muscle around the joint that’s contributing to the dysfunction.

Re-Educate: Training the muscles responsible for movement to work more efficiently, helping to reduce pain and prevent future issues.

Reinforce: Strengthening the key muscles to lower the risk of injury happening again.

Retain: Showing you how to preserve proper form during activities, helping you achieve your goals and sustain progress.

What To Expect From Your Physio Appointment?

GPs often refer patients to physiotherapists because of their expertise in reducing pain and stiffness. We work with many conditions to support better movement and a fuller life. If you feel something could improve, our team is ready to assist!

Your first consultation involves a comprehensive assessment and informed diagnosis, carefully considering your symptoms and medical history. No two treatment plans are identical, showing how personalised physiotherapy truly is. Your physiotherapist will review your treatment options with you beforehand.

Your physiotherapist will create treatment and management plans tailored to your needs, helping you address specific issues like a sore knee, headaches, arthritis, or sports injuries. Your goals are always at the centre of your care.

Physiotherapists apply a range of techniques including joint mobilisation, muscle and myofascial release, trigger point therapy, manual therapy, dry needling, and exercise therapy. Any treatment recommended is chosen carefully to support you in reaching your goals.

Your Physiotherapy Questions Answered

Do physiotherapists appointments require a referral?

Physiotherapists can be considered first-contact independent practitioners. If you have an acute injury, or chronic pain or need to visit us, you don’t require a doctor’s referral. The physiotherapists of A Pinch Of Physiotherapy are more than happy to work alongside your healthcare team; be they podiatrists, dentists, GPs or naturopaths; and are delighted to accept Enhanced Primary Care plans from your treating physician.

What qualifications does a qualified physiotherapist have?

Physiotherapy in Australia is a highly regulated industry that requires successful completion of university-level tertiary studies, active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association (APA) and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). All members must complete at least 20 hours of continuing education each year in order to remain active members of these regulatory bodies. Compliance with these rules allows patients to feel confident that their physiotherapist is a board-certified professional, subject to an ethical code of conduct and remains fully versed with current research and techniques within their field

How many sessions of physiotherapy are required?

It will depend on your personal goals, needs, and treatment plan. For some people may only need a couple of sessions, while others may require a more ongoing and long-term plan.

What should I wear for my physio appointment?

There’s no need to dress to impress here! You can wear whatever you like, but ensure that we can still work on the affected area of your body. You might wear shorts if your knee pain is severe, and a singlet if you have pain in your shoulders.

Are Medicare and private health insurance accepted for physiotherapy?

This will depend on your specific condition. Physiotherapy coverage may also be available through Medicare under an Enhanced Primary Care plan. Private health insurance may or may not cover physiotherapy. We recommend that you speak with your insurer for advice.

How can I tell if physiotherapy is the appropriate treatment for my injury?

You can get in touch with us to determine if physiotherapy is for you. Our physiotherapists will assess your needs and recommend the best treatment options for you.
