What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is about helping you move and feel better, which is often why people seek care. But there’s much more to it than meets the eye!

Physiotherapy is more than just a treatment – it’s an art and a discipline shaped over many years. No matter the injury, there’s a form of physiotherapy to help you recover and regain your strength.

We offer a broad range of treatments like massage, dry needling, and joint mobilisation. Our goal is to work with you to find the right approach, helping you take charge of your mobility and wellbeing.

Our Physio Approach

Physiotherapy covers many areas of life, including injury treatment and prevention, education, exercise programs, occupational health checks, pelvic floor support, continence care, and falls prevention.

Our team at A Pinch Of Prevention is dedicated to guiding you towards becoming the best physical version of yourself, in a way that respects your individual journey. At A Pinch Of Prevention, we assess and diagnose carefully before crafting your individual treatment plan, built around our proven 4-step approach: Release, Re-educate, Reinforce, and Retain.

Release: Focusing on the key muscle impacting the joint to address the source of dysfunction.

Re-Educate: Guiding the muscles involved in movement to function properly, decreasing discomfort and preventing recurring pain.

Reinforce: Building strength in the right muscles to help prevent future injuries.

Retain: Guiding you to maintain good movement patterns so you can continue to live actively and confidently.

What To Expect From Your Physio Appointment?

Physiotherapists work with the body’s musculoskeletal system and are trusted by GPs to help with pain, stiffness, and mobility. If you’re not feeling your best, we’re here to help you get back on track!

During your initial consultation, we conduct a full assessment and diagnosis based on your symptoms and medical background. Treatment plans are tailored individually—even for the same condition—and your physiotherapist will explain your options before beginning care.

Together with your physiotherapist, you’ll build a plan tailored to your needs, whether you’re managing knee pain, headaches, arthritis, or recovering from a sports injury. Your care is all about you.

Techniques like joint mobilisation, muscle release, dry needling, and tailored exercise therapy are part of physiotherapy care. Whatever is recommended has been thoughtfully chosen to best support your progress.

Your Physiotherapy Questions Answered

Do I need a referral to see a physio?

A physiotherapist is an autonomous first-contact practitioner. This means you don’t need to be referred by a doctor to see us for acute injuries or chronic pain. A Pinch Of Physiotherapy physiotherapists will gladly work with any healthcare team including podiatrists and dentists and can accept Enhanced Primary Care Plans from your GP.

What qualifications does a physio have?

Physiotherapy in Australia has a strict regulatory board. It requires successful completion of at least one year of university-level tertiary study, active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association or AHPRA registration and active membership with The Australian Physiotherapist Association. All members must complete at least 20 hours of continuing education each year in order to remain active members of these regulatory bodies. This allows patients to feel secure that their physiotherapist remains a board-certified professional. They are subject to an ethical code, remain current with research and techniques and have met all of these requirements.

How many physio sessions do I need?

It will depend on your personal goals, needs, and treatment plan. For some people may only need a couple of sessions, while others may require a more ongoing and long-term plan.

What should I wear during a physio appointment?

It doesn’t matter if you dress up or down. You can wear whatever you like, but ensure that we can still work on the affected area of your body.

Is physiotherapy covered by Medicare or any private health insurance?

This depends on your individual circumstances. Physiotherapy coverage may be available through Medicare with an Enhanced Primary Care Plan, and if you have private health cover this may or may not include physiotherapy– we recommend you check with your insurer if you’re unsure.

How do I determine if physiotherapy is right for me?

Contact us if you are unsure if physiotherapy might be right for you. Our physios will meet with you to evaluate your needs and assist you to choose the most beneficial treatment option for you.
